In The Beginning... Jan. 29, 2005 Texasbound.net has been around in one form or another for almost five years now. Granted in the last two years there really has been nothing done to the site due to the fact that my money requiring life got in the way, but I digress. So here is a brief rundown of how things got started and an introduction to the new form Texasbound.net is taking on, bloggness. In the summer of 2000 most of my free time (which was lots) revolved around seeing as much good live music as I possibly could. Living in San Antonio, thankfully, put me in close proximity to many awesome live music venues such as Gruene Hall, John T. Floore Country Store, Cheatham Street Warehouse etc. One day while contemplating which stops on I-35 I would be gracing with my presence that week, I had the brilliant idea to make a written list of all of the shows that me, and the rest of the rough and tumble crew, would probably want to see that week. I folded it up, put it in my back pocket, and went about my way. Almost immediately I decided that a better way to share this concert calendar was to have it somewhere on the worldwide web. At the time I knew how to search the internet, get e-mail, and copy text (which I most certainly did not pass off as my own work in various college projects). So I set about making the most poorly designed website in the history of the internets...seriously. As luck would have it though my future Mrs. had been working in web design for a little bit as a student worker at Texas A&M University (I don't wanna start no fights now) and was able to point me in a semi-respectable direction. At this point I had a layout, some decent content, and an idea of what I wanted the site to be. All I needed now was name. As I kicked back to think about this one I thought it was going to take me forever, but I was quite wrong. The Harris & Ryden Band song 'Texas Bound Again' popped into my head and bam, Texasbound.net. The .net part was added only after I found out that .com was already taken. So that's how it all got started. Of course it isn't now what it used to be and it probably never will be again. Putting together that concert calendar kicked my ass and consumed hours upon hours of my time and I doubt you ever see it again here in these pages. However, I will continue to post pictures and spin yarns about concerts I attend, my life in Texas, stories of memories past, present, and future, and also get in as many shameless plugs for Full Nelson (which you can hear on Sunday at noon on KNBT 92.1 FM Radio New Braunfels hosted by me, John Robbins) as I can. |
